Stacey H. Brill, MS, CCC-SLP, Named a VIP Member of Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Dysphagia Treatment
Ms. Brill evaluates and treats patients suffering from dysphagia, specializing in the treatment of those diagnosed with oral, head, or neck cancer

FORT MYERS, FL, January 26, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stacey H. Brill, Speech Language Pathologist for the Gulf Coast Medical Center of the Lee Memorial Health System, has been named a VIP Member by Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Something so simple as the ability to swallow is taken for granted by individuals every day. However, for Ms. Brill's patients, this is something that needs to be worked at day in and day out. Ninety percent of her patients who are diagnosed with oral, head, and neck cancer have to use feeding tubes. As a speech language pathologist for the Gulf Coast Medical Center, she evaluates and treats patients suffering from dysphagia, specializing in the treatment of those diagnosed with oral, head, or neck cancer.

Referred to by physicians, Ms. Brill is one of a few in her demographic who has a fiber-optic scope to help her patients access the swallowing ability. Much of her time is spent educating patients and counseling. She facilitates the local chapter of SPOHNC (Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer). Every December she hosts a luncheon for patients to reconnect and loves seeing them eat for the first time. The highlight of her career was when she was able to share a meal with a patient who had not been able to eat in months and watch the smile on that patient's face appear when she told them that they could eat again.

Ms. Brill earned a Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders in 1991 from the University of Central Florida, followed with a Master of Science in Speech Pathology two short years later from Nova Southeastern University. A member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association, she has been given the ACE Award three times by this prestigious organization. In the future, she hopes to become trained in TEP, grow the support group, and hold early detection screenings for oral, head, and neck cancer in the community. She also aspires to obtain grant support to help oral, head, and neck cancer patients fund their therapy when they experience financial hardship.
